The school was founded in 1962 and is located in D\u00fcsseldorf, the capital of Germany’s largest state: North Rhine-Westphalia.The Lyc\u00e9e fran\u00e7ais de D\u00fcsseldorf is a French school, approved by the Ministry of Education and governed by an agreement between the parents’ association, which manages the school financially, and the Agence pour l’enseignement fran\u00e7ais \u00e0 l’\u00e9tranger (AEFE).<\/p>\n

The school was founded in 1962 and is located in D\u00fcsseldorf, the capital of Germany’s largest state: North Rhine-Westphalia.<\/p>\n

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SCHOOL

The Lyc\u00e9e Fran\u00e7ais de D\u00fcsseldorf has just over 600 pupils, from Nursery to Year 12:<\/p>\n

The majority of students (42%) are French, or have dual French nationality (22%). The remaining students are German (17%) or of another nationality. In all, more than 25 nationalities are represented at the school.<\/p>\n

The curriculum taught is the French curriculum, but the lyc\u00e9e also places considerable emphasis on German and German culture. More broadly, multilingualism, which includes learning English and Spanish, is a major focus of the school’s teaching.<\/p>\n

In addition to the educational programme, the school offers students extra-curricular activities: supervised study every afternoon and numerous cultural, sports and artistic workshops such as theatre, jewellery making, sewing, DIY, music, zumba, tennis, taekwondo, various styles of dance, etc.<\/p>\n

A new building was inaugurated in 2018.<\/p>\n

OUR IMPACT<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Since the partnership was set up, International Impact has sent 7 civic service volunteers to the French lyc\u00e9e in D\u00fcsseldorf.<\/p>\n

Working in groups, the volunteers help to welcome pupils in the morning, organise school outings and various social events at the school (school f\u00eate, carnival, Christmas, etc.).<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

They are also involved in running the library and documentation centre (BCD): they explain how it works to the pupils, take part in individual or group readings and manage book loans.<\/p>\n

Finally, they provide support for pupils in difficulty, particularly as part of the work of the Groupe de Pr\u00e9vention du D\u00e9crochage Scolaire (School Dropout Prevention Group), assist the teams in implementing citizenship education projects and help to mobilise pupils in the development of the school’s media (web radio, school newspapers, blog, etc.).<\/p>\n

Each volunteer is encouraged to propose new activities to enrich the school support programme.<\/p>\n
