Assist refugees with ActionAid Hellas
1. CONTEXT:
ActionAid Hellas was established in 1998 in Athens, and is part of the international organisation ActionAid (founded in 1972).
Since 1972, the NGO has been active against poverty and injustice in more than 45 countries around the world. Today, more than 15 million people are learning, through the organization’s programmes, to rely on their own strength to regain a dignified life and a better and fairer world for all.
To date, ActionAid Hellas has supported 83 communities around the world, thanks to more than 100,000 Greek and Cypriot entrepreneurs. Today it continues to support 44 communities in 18 countries.
2. MEANS:
In Greece, the NGO supports children, adolescents and adults from vulnerable low-income families through the Epicentre, an area in the centre of Athens, offering free services to combat social and economic exclusion. It also contributes to the fight against unemployment through the Action Finance Initiative, the first organisation in Greece to offer free access to finance in the form of microcredit to those who do not have access to the necessary funds. It informs, intrigues and mobilises Greek public opinion through awareness-raising campaigns on issues related to global poverty, racism and social exclusion.
ActionAid Hellas has many priorities including: addressing violence against women and girls and ensuring economic justice, strengthening sustainable agriculture that respects the environment and adapts to climate change, and ensuring state accountability for reallocating resources and providing quality services designed to meet the needs of all.
3. OUR IMPACT:
International Impact has enabled the recruitment of a civic service (a second one is underway) in Athens within ActionAid Hellas.
