Empower agriculture with Trésor de Nature (Ecuador/France)
1 CONTEXT :
Since 2001, Trésor de Nature has been working to restore the fauna and flora of the Amazonian forest and to develop a local, social, solidarity and sustainable economy. The association shows farmers that they can earn an income from agroforestry and ecological farming.
The association’s objective is to create nature reserves in Puerto Misahualli in order to preserve biodiversity and ecosystems, and to reforest fallow areas in France.
2 MEANS :
The members of Trésor de Nature restore biodiversity by setting up fruit plantations mixed with endemic species in Ecuador and sowing bomb seeds (in the form of seed balls) on the burned lands in the Bouches-du-Rhône.
They also raise awareness among young people in secondary schools in Bouches-du-Rhône about eco-friendly actions and respect for the environment in relation to the Mediterranean sea and forest.
They work with the local population and sensitize/train them in agroforestry and agroecology techniques (without pesticides).
3 OUR IMPACT:
International Impact has made it possible to provide 5 civic services (a 6th CS is about to leave) within the Trésor de Nature team in Ecuador since 2018.
4 PROJECT TO SUPPORT:
The purchase/acquisition of land to transform it into a nature reserve, to fight against:
- global warming,
- the extinction of biodiversity,
- mining operations through concessions that remove trees from the land, turn the land upside down, divert and pollute watercourses with mercury,
- selective deforestation: owners select trees of noble species for sale; the land has become fields used to raise cattle and has been deforested (some native tree species have almost disappeared),
- land fires to grow maize, rice, cocoa and yucca using pesticides.
